 Dorothy’s Range has numerous happenings.  Our Gloucestershire Old Spots (GOS)hogs are in our spotlight these days.  We started with Large Black hogs and are now are focusing on (GOS). These hogs are in danger of disappearing. We are encouraging folks to bring this breed back by purchasing pork or piglets to raise yourself. 

We have chosen these breeds ( Large Black and GOS) for several reasons.  These pigs are rare, docile, fun to be around, tasty with marbled meat, and were chosen for their grazing and mothering abilities.  We added the Gloucestershire Old Spot (GOS), onto the range after raising a hybrid mix of the Large Black and GOS. Satisfied with the growth, efficiency, personality and overall quality we wanted to offer this choice.  We now offer GOS breeding stock, pure GOS meat, breeders and feeders. 

 Being a vegetarian for several years because I did not want to participate in the current agriculture model, taking this step was a rather large leap. How delicious food is, when it comes from home!   Soon after spending time, sharing energy and discovering how under appreciated  most livestock is I wanted to provide an alternative, to provide a pork source people can trust and respect. First comes vegetable, second comes chickens, and then pigs in the pastured prairie.                       You are what you eat, I believe.

Pastured Pork
Our pigs are raised on pasture, producing high quality healthy pork.  They are fed diverse pasture, supplemental fermented organic grain, apples, squash, walnuts, organic milk and more veggies.  We do not feed them any GMO products, or by-products such as whey, and milk.  If need be, they are medicinally treated holistically and naturally.  Their anatomy is very similar to us, making it easier to treat them holistically.
, Their meat is not the other white meat, it is red, marbled and flavorful.  These breeds are dual purpose, historically grown for pork and lard, creating yum. We offer cuts, sausage, bacon, roasts, wurst, hams, organs and locally rendered lard.  Package discounts available and  occasionally you can reserve Half and Whole Hogs. 
 Our animals are treated with respect, and are really appreciated.  Each day we spend time observing, feeding, itching and enjoying their awesomeness. They always have access to the outdoors. Often times we'll watch them running around and playing in the pasture, wallowing and clearly enjoying life.   You are what you eat, I believe.
